morning glory exhibitions

In the Edo period, morning glories attracted everyone from feudal lords to common people. The development of new varieties became popular. Exhibitions of morning glories including mutant and large-flowered ones developed in the Edo Period, and ones developed in Higo(present Kumamoto). The lords of the Higo Domain encouraged the cultivation of flowers including  Chinese Peony, chrysanthemum, Japanese camellia, Morning Glory, Hanashobu(Iris ensata var. ensata) and Christmas Camellia as a mental training for samurai. There are few free photos of morning glory exhibitions because visitors can see the flowers only during morning.
