soft rime and snow festivals

Mount Zao stretches between Yamagata and Miyagi Prefectures.
Now is the perfect time to see the soft rime in Zao.
Snowmobile tours from Miyagi Prefecture to soft rime fields are offered.

The Yamagata Zao hot spring ski resort



















The Yamagata Zao hot spring ski resort is located in Yamagata Prefecture and is famous for being able to see soft rime on the ski slopes.




Soft rime is illuminated for about 50 days
 out of the period between December 30 and February 29.

Zao Soft Rime Festival(蔵王樹氷まつり) was held at the Yamagata Zao hot spring ski resort in Yamagata Prefecture from February 3rd to 9th.
Soft rime is being illuminated from January 21st to February 29th.
